Clients have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” demonstrating how much expensive medical care will be

Under the federal law known as the “No Surprises Act”, healthcare providers are required to furnish clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of their total billings for any medical line items and/or services.

– A client has the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services. This includes costs such as medical testing, prescriptions, equipment, and/or hospital bills.

– Healthcare providers are to provide GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service commences. A client can ask a healthcare provider (or any other related provider) for a GFE before scheduling an appointment.

– If a client receives a bill $400 or more than what the GFE has stated, a client has the option to dispute the bill.

– A client should make sure to save a copy or picture of their GFE.

Questions and more information regarding GFEs can be found by visiting www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
